What is The Shard?
Otherwise known as a “vertical city”, The Shard was designed as a place in London to work, eat and relax. Designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, the iconic glass pyramid reigns tall over London and was opened to the public in February 2013. Previously crowned the London Bridge Tower, The Shard got its nickname due to its unusual shape resembling a shard of glass.
Boasting unobstructed 360-degree views of the capital for up to 40 miles at 800ft, it’s no wonder it’s so popular with locals and international tourists alike.
The tallest building in the UK, The Shard boasts prize-winning restaurants, deluxe offices and the renowned five-star Shangri-La Hotel. But most importantly, The Shard offers the UK’s highest viewing platform, The View from The Shard.
Placed in the heart of London’s Southwark borough, The Shard is easily accessible by a surplus of local transportation.
